Sissy and Marley

it is a lovely site, who runs by 3 lovley women and they did a short interview with me. here it is -

We are obsessed with Tamar Mogendorff's creations.  They are magical and sweet...just like her.  Such beautiful works of art, any child would be lucky to have these whimsical pieces gracing their walls.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE THESE BEAUTIFUL PIECES OF ART?
Almost everything inspires me.  It can be the most banal thing, or a random moment, or a book I happened to open and get an idea from.  Sometimes I feel the need to act in order to get creative...go travel, watch a movie...but most times it can just happen by something totally random, a conversation or a dream.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
Right now, I live on a beautiful street in Brooklyn.  I love it there!
IF WE WERE VISITING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, WHAT WOULD BE ON YOUR LIST FOR US TO SEE, DO, EAT AND SHOP?
A stop into Acorn is always a treat.  They have the most beautiful and unique toys.  Layla is tasteful!  Go to Darr to say "hi" to the big taxidermy bear.  BAM for a movie.  A bike ride to the farmer's market in Fort Greene on the weekend.  Baked in Red Hook for a bite.  Sit on the water with a book or just sit on a stoop. There is so much to do in Brooklyn.  Most of all, wander around and bump into friends.
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT YOUR PIECES?
A lot of thought and time goes into my work.  It is all handmade in my studio by me and a small group of amazing women.  Rose, Lania, Matteah, Paola, Martha, Eva and Maria are my biggest treasures!  They are as passionate as me.  Each piece is one of a kind in a way.  While there is a pattern, no two are exactly alike.
WHERE DO YOU FIND ALL THE MATERIALS FOR THE PIECES?
In so many places! A big part of my job is to keep up with all the many different materials we need.  I have special ribbon, fabric and wire that are made from different vendors.  I am always looking for new materials.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CREATE EACH PIECE?
It varies since there are so many different styles and the process is so different.  Some items are easy to make but there is a lot of stitching involved.  The stuffing process takes time.  And sometimes it takes a lot of time just to put the colors together.  There is a lot of labor involved.  But my goal is to make everything look effortless!
WHAT IS THE BEST BUSINESS ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED?
Keep it as a jewel.  Small and special!
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU STARTED THIS BUSINESS?
Many different things but mainly I was a student in art and design and a florist for many years.
WHO/WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SOURCE OF INSPIRATION?
There is no one in particular.  But I always listen to my friends.  I listen to the street.  I listen to whatever is around me.  I guess living here is my biggest inspiration.
Thanks Tamar!
Three kisses,
Chelsea, Rachel and Diana
